Emotional & Behavioral Assessments for Children

Understanding Emotions. Supporting Regulation. Guiding Growth.

As children grow, emotional development plays a central role in how they learn, relate to others, and respond to life’s challenges. When emotions become overwhelming—or begin to interfere with school, home life, or friendships—parents often sense that something deeper is going on.

At Global Psychoeducational Solutions (GPS), we offer comprehensive emotional and behavioral assessments to help families understand what’s beneath the surface—and how to move forward with clarity and confidence.

What Is an Emotional or Social-Emotional Assessment?

An emotional assessment evaluates how a child experiences, expresses, and manages internal feelings such as anxiety, sadness, frustration, or anger. These internal states aren’t always obvious—but they often show up through behavior, school performance, or social withdrawal.

A social-emotional assessment goes a step further. In addition to understanding a child’s emotional world, it examines how they navigate peer relationships, read social cues, and regulate themselves in group settings.

Together, these evaluations can help identify:

  • Signs of anxiety, low mood, or adjustment difficulties
  • Struggles with emotional regulation and coping
  • Persistent worries, low self-esteem, or perfectionism
  • Behavioral changes linked to stress, trauma, or transition
  • Challenges with friendship, peer conflict, or social problem-solving

We often assess children who are:

  • Overwhelmed by classroom expectations or peer dynamics
  • Prone to emotional outbursts, meltdowns, or shutdowns
  • Avoidant, clingy, or socially withdrawn
  • Navigating difficult transitions (e.g., divorce, bullying, new schools)
  • Expressing worry, sadness, or frustration without an obvious reason

What the Assessment Includes

Each emotional or social-emotional assessment is carefully tailored to your child’s developmental stage, personality, and daily environment.

Our process includes:

  • A comprehensive parent intake to explore emotional history, daily patterns, and current concerns
  • Direct interaction and observation with a licensed school psychologist
  • Standardized behavior rating scales (e.g., BASC-3, Conners, SSIS) completed by parents, teachers, or caregivers
  • Optional screening for related domains such as attention, executive functioning, or social communication

Note: GPS evaluations are conducted for educational planning purposes. If clinical diagnosis or therapy is recommended, we provide referrals to trusted providers for therapeutic services.
